9:15 AM - 3:00 PMManhattan Country School, 150 West 85th Street (between Amsterdam & Columbus)

Prof. Marina Rustow will be Darkhei Noam's next Shabbat Scholar-in-Residence. She will address the community three times during Shabbat: during Kabbalat Shabbat, before Musaf, and during the community lunch following services.

Marina Rustow is Professor of Near Eastern Studies and Professor of History at Princeton University, where she holds the Khedouri A. Zilkha Chair in Jewish Civilization in the Near East. She also directs the Princeton Geniza Lab, which brings students and specialists together to decipher and digitize unpublished medieval documents in Hebrew and Arabic script. She is the author of Heresy and the Politics of Community: The Jews of the Fatimid Caliphate (Cornell UP, 2008), and of The Lost Archive: Traces of a Caliphate in a Cairo Synagogue (Princeton UP, 2020). She was named a MacArthur Fellow in 2015.

This Scholar-in-Residence Shabbat is sponsored by Ozzie Haller in memory of her husband, Jack Oliver Haller, z"l. Jack Haller was committed to Judaism and the significance of the community, and it is Ozzie's hope that bringing interesting ideas to the Darkhei Noam community will help preserve his memory.
