Ariel Zwang is CEO of the American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee (JDC), the leading global Jewish humanitarian organization, operating in 70 countries worldwide. Ariel previously led Safe Horizon, one of America’s leading social service agencies. She also served as Executive Director of New York Cares, New York City’s largest volunteering organization; as a White House Fellow in the Department of Housing and Urban Development; as Vice President of the Women’s Housing and Economic Development Corporation in the South Bronx; and as Special Assistant to the Chancellor of the New York City Board of Education. She is currently a Vice President of Congregation B’nai Jeshurun in Manhattan. Ariel received an MBA from Harvard Business School and a BA in Applied Mathematics from Harvard College.

Shiv’a Asar b'Tammuz, the 17th of Tammuz, is a fast day commemorating the day on which Nebuchadnezzar, King of Babylonia, broke through the siege of Jerusalem in 586 BCE, leading to the destruction of the Temple three weeks later on Tish’a b'Av, the Ninth of Av. Fast begins: 4:24 AM and ends at 8:57 PM The fast begins at 4:24 AM and ends at 8:53/9:07 PM The time period between Shiv’a Asar b' Tammuz and Tish’a b’Av is known as The Three Weeks. It is marked by a reduction in joyfulness, including abstaining from weddings, haircuts, and live music
