Scholar-in-Residence Dinner with David Zvi Kalman

Friday, December 15, 2023 3 Tevet 5784

6:30 PM - 9:30 PM150 W. 85th Street (MCS)

Dr. David Zvi Kalman will address the community three times:

  • Kabbalat Shabbat: The Emerging Torah of Psychoactive Substances
95% of American Jews live in states where cannabis can be legally purchased. A small but growing number can buy psychedelics, too. As legality has made it more respectable to discuss appropriate use—including ritual use—it is time to create a Jewish framework through which these substances should be considered.
  • Community dinner following KS: AI in Jewish Thought
Artificial Intelligence promises to radically transform everything from work to medicine to the way we understand what it means to be human. What can Judaism offer this world-changing technology—and how might Judaism be changed in turn?
  • Before Musaf: What is Jewish Futurism?
Humanity is on the precipice of rapid and unprecedented change, both for good and ill. What will it take for Jewish thought to survive in a world the likes of which has never been seen?
