Chatan Torah: Barry Langman

The Chatan Torah is honored with the final aliyah of the annual cycle, completing our reading of the entire Torah.

Barry Langman has been a member of Darkhei Noam since 2012. He is a member of the Finance Committee and the Space Committee, and for the past eight years, he has served as Darkhei’s real estate lawyer in our arrangements with MCS, Trevor and other locations. Barry is a Counsel in the real estate group at the law firm of Paul Weiss, where his practice specializes in leasing with a sub-specialty in working with not-for-profit institutions such as hospitals and universities. He is married to Suzanne Kling Langman, and they have a 10-year-old son Elliott and a 5-year-old shih tzu Desmond.

Kallat Bereshit: Naomi Steinberger

The Kallat Bereshit is honored with the first aliyah of the new cycle, starting the book of Bereshit.

Naomi Steinberger, with her husband Chaim, have been members of Darkhei Noam since its inception. She co-chaired the Mix-and-Match Meals initiative, served on the Scholar-in-Residence committee and the COVID committee, and has been a member of the DN Board since 2020, where she currently chairs the Membership Committee. She has been the unofficial host of DN Board meetings both during Chaim's tenure on the Board and as co-chair, and during her tenure. Professionally, she served as Director of Library Services at JTS for decades and is currently co-directing a Certificate in Judaica Librarianship program at JTS. Naomi is a third-generation Manhattanite. She's the proud mom of two adult children, their spouses, and two grandsons (who are not New Yorkers).

Kol Ha’Nearim: Joe Nahmias

The Kol Ha’Nearim aliyah is a special recognition given to those whose dedication to Darkhei Noam’s children has profoundly benefited our congregation throughout the year.

Originally from Brooklyn, Joe Nahmias has been attending services at DN for close to 10 years. You'll recognize him as the one letting the youth group leaders know where the main minyan is up to during tefilah and herding the kids down to lead the end of mussaf. Tell your children not to be shy: all kids are welcome to join the group — whether they know the words or not! Maybe one day you'll hear Joe and the kids leading the Sephardi version of Adon Olam.

Please join us in celebrating Barry, Naomi, and Joe as we dance, sing, and welcome the New Year together with the Torah.

We look forward to seeing you at our festive Simchat Torah celebration!

With much thanks and best wishes for a chag sameach,

DN Co-Chairs and the ST Planning Team
Isaac Altman & Sharon Samet | Abby Knopp, Roz Singer, & Rachel Weintraub
